European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
AGC, a Japanese flat glass manufacturing firm, has announced it plans to cut 190 jobs across Europe within the next two years.
In Belgium, the layoffs will affect 103 jobs, including 49 at the Louvain-la-Neuve headquarters, 30 at the Gosselies research centre and 24 across various other Belgian sites. Union officials have announced they will examine if the cuts exceed 10% of the staff, a threshold that would trigger the 'Renault procedure' for mass layoffs, while the company currently classifies the move as a reorganization plan.
The measure is part of a competitiveness strategy driven by a significant drop in architectural glass production and pessimistic forecasts.
AGC is a global glass manufacturer, employing about 53,700 people worldwide. In Europe, the company has its production sites in Belgium and France.
