The Spanish automotive start-up Liux is opening the first new car manufacturing plant in Spain in over 30 years. The facility, located in Azuqueca de Henares (Guadalajara), will begin operations in the first quarter of this year and will focus on producing the Liux Big, a lightweight two-seater electric vehicle.
The project is expected to generate 185 direct jobs, boosting the economy of the Henares industrial corridor. The plant, covering 5,550 square metres, combines production, R&D and office space. It represents an initial investment of €12 million, expected to rise to €30 million over the next five years. From 2028, the factory will have the capacity to manufacture 15,000 vehicles annually.
Although modest in scale compared with major automotive plants, the initiative strengthens Spain’s ambition to become a hub for electric vehicle manufacturing and demonstrates that there is still room for new, innovative automotive projects alongside large multinational investments.
