Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Taparo, a Romanian company specialised in producing furniture, announced the dismissal of 379 persons at Targu Lapus plant (Maramures County) by the end of 2025. The company filed for insolvency in November 2024 and sent a notification to the Maramures County Employment Agency announcing the dismissal of 379 people, almost 40% of its average number of employees.
A representative of the County Employment Agency mentioned that the company will dismiss a total of 600 employees.
At the end of 2023, the company had a net profit of €368.000, a turnover of approx. €42 million and 860 employees.
However, the company had total debts of around €34,2 million, with no arrears to the State.
The is no public statement from the trade unions regarding the dismissals.
