Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Pharmaceutical multinational Merck, is to create 200 new jobs in Cork over the next three years. The new jobs are due to a significant investment and the opening of a new manufacturing site in Blarney Business Park, on the outskirts of Cork city. Merck currently employs approximately 3,600 employees in Ireland, across a number of different sites. The company employs some 68,000 people globally in 120 different countries. The new site in Cork will be the company’s first manufacturing facility designed for ‘full climate-neutral operations’ and will be powered entirely by 100pc renewable electricity. This marks a milestone in the company’s ambition to achieve climate neutrality by 2040.
