European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
The bicycle manufacturer Canyon from Koblenz plans to cut 320 jobs at its core locations. A company spokesperson specified that positions will be eliminated in Koblenz and Amsterdam, although the exact number for Koblenz is still unclear.
According to the press release, the company aims to simplify operational structures. After the boom during the Covid-19 pandemic, it now has to adjust to dampened economic forecasts.
Talks with the works council have already begun.
Canyon employs a total of 1,600 people, 1,200 of which in Germany.
Updated, 20/05/2026 Canyon Bicycles has updated its restructuring plans. The company will cut around 200 jobs at their site in Koblenz. The reductions are driven by a challenging market environment following U.S. tariffs and the end of the COVID 19 boom, and result from extensive negotiations between the company, the works council, and IG Metall. The works council successfully reduced the initially planned job cuts from 320, announced by the company in January 2026, to 200. A voluntary exit programme has been agreed, and founder Roman Arnold has pledged not to enforce compulsory redundancies at the site. The agreement reflects the company’s commitment to preserving jobs while adapting to current market pressures.
