Description
FedEx, a multinational company specialised in postal and courier services, announced plans to cut 500 jobs in France and close 17 facilities as part of an internal restructuring. In addition, approximately 800 employees may experience changes to their workplace location or working hours.
As part of this restructuring plan, FedEx will reduce the number of its operational sites from 103 to 86.
The plan aims to rationalise the company’s road operations network, modernise infrastructure and technological tools, and reorient services towards international deliveries to and from France, while concentrating activities in key logistics hubs such as Charles de Gaulle Airport. FedEx will also invest €78 million to modernise its logistics infrastructure and accelerate digitalisation, including the deployment of a new platform to optimise parcel collection and delivery and integrate existing IT systems. France will be the first European country where this technology is implemented, according to the company.
The restructuring plan will be discussed with trade unions as part of the information and consultation process. A representative of Force Ouvrière stated that the union will work to ensure that affected employees are offered redeployment opportunities wherever possible, while seeking to minimise the number of job losses and obtain guarantees regarding the protection of employment.
