European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
The automotive supplier Valeo plans to cut 705 jobs in Bavaria. The Bad Neustadt an der Saale site, with 183 employees, is to be closed completely. 40 positions from the Bad Neustadt an der Saale site are to be relocated to Erlangen. In Erbern, 137 jobs are affected, 37 of which are to be moved to Erlangen. This will strengthen the Erlangen site; nevertheless, 158 positions are to be cut there. At the Bad Rodach site, 230 employees are affected, 100 in production, 70 in research and development, and 60 in administration.
According to Valeo this measure is due to the economic downturn of the sector and the high competition from abroad.
Consultations with employee representatives are still pending, and there is no concrete timeline yet.
Valeo employes 2,300 people at the mentioned sites in Bavaria.
In 2023 the company moved its production from the soon-to-be-closed Bad Neustadt site to Poland causing 300 dismissals which were registered by the ERM events database Valeo 2023 - DE. This decision was specifically criticised by the union, arguing that they had raised concerns about the long-term sustainability for German locations if production was moved abroad. The union sees the dismissals now as a direct result of this decision.
