Description
Leoni Wiring Systems, the Romanian subsidiary of the German Leoni group, which manufactures cables and harnessing, including for the automotive industry, announced plans to dismiss 465 people between January 2026 and the end of that year.
The layoffs target the Leoni car wiring plant in Arad (Arad County), which has 3,700 employees. The company representatives announced that although efforts have been made to optimise operations, including cost reductions, operational adjustments, and organisational measures, the company is forced to reorganise its activities in 2026. The reorganization of the company means a reduction of the workforce necessary to align resources with current customer demand, following the legal path regarding collective dismissal procedures.
The company stated that all employees affected by the dismissal process will receive full support, including compensation packages in accordance with company policy and labour legislation, job placement assistance and career counseling services, and payment of all wages and benefits due to date.
The Leoni Group has been present in Romania since 2000, with 10 production units and around 12,000 employees at its peak.
