European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
As announced on 25 November 2025, stationery manufacturer Faber-Castell plans to cut 130 jobs in Germany by March 2027 at its headquarters in Stein and at the production site in Geroldsgrün, which are both located in Bavaria.
The reason cited is high U.S. tariffs and declining demand. Small production lines with low capacity utilisation are to be relocated to Brazil and Peru.
According to the company, there will be no compulsory redundancies; instead, early retirement arrangements and natural attrition will be used. IG Metall has criticised the plans and the approach, stating that there were no talks with employee representatives.
Faber-Castell employs around 6,200 people worldwide, about 1,200 of them in Germany.
