Amazon, an American e‑commerce giant, has announced that up to 470 positions may be cut in its Luxembourg operations. The affected unit consists of employees at the company’s Luxembourg site, and the restructuring is set to commence after negotiations with social partners begin next Monday.
The job cuts are driven by cost‑saving measures, a correction for overhiring during the COVID‑19 pandemic, and a strategic shift toward artificial intelligence, as part of Amazon’s broader plan to eliminate about 14,000 jobs worldwide: Amazon 2025 - WO.
Social partners involved include the national employment agency ADEM and the trade union OGBL, with negotiations and a social plan expected to be negotiated in the coming weeks.
Amazon employs roughly 1.5 million people globally and around 4,500 in Luxembourg, where its European headquarters have operated for over two decades and where the company has invested €11 billion since 2010.
