European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
The Swedish paper manufacturer Nordic Paper has announced that it plans to cut 83 positions worldwide.
The restructuring will affect 73 jobs in three units in Sweden Nordic Paper 2025-SE as well as 10 positions in Nordic Paper’s facilities in Norway and in Canada.
The company initiated cooperation negotiations with employee representatives. The restructuring programme is implemented due to high production costs and persistent weak market conditions. The move is a reaction to a weak paper market, where input costs have continued to be high while the demand for paper on the global market is low.
The trade union Pappers is involved, expressing concern about the wave of layoffs in the industry and pledging support for affected employees. Local union representatives at the mills have also reacted strongly, calling the situation very difficult for workers.
Nordic Paper produces kraft paper and greaseproof paper for industrial and food-packaging uses. The company employs about 700 people worldwide.
