Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Sonaca Aerospace Transilvania, a local subsidiary of the Belgian group Sonaca and a manufacturer of components for the aerospace industry, has expanded its production in Moldovenesti (Cluj County). The new facility is a result of the company’s three new contracts with Airbus. Production is expected to double following the €40 million investment. A total of 160 new jobs is expected to be created.
Completed in November 2024 and officially accepted by the authorities in May 2025, the investment involved the construction of a new building with a total area of 14,000 square meters. This new facility will house sheet metal forming and welding processes, including capabilities that meet Airbus specifications and specific standard requirements.
The recruitment process is ongoing and will accelerate next year as production ramps up. The company is hiring support staff and technical specialists to install new equipment and qualify production lines to Airbus standards.
In Romania, Sonaca inaugurated its first plant in 2016, the year in which it began mass production of components for Airbus aircraft. In 2019, it acquired additional equipment to develop its production capacity.
Sonaca Aerospace Transilvania has a workforce of 161 employees.
