Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Erasteel, the steel and metal manufacturer, is cutting 190 jobs at its site in Commentry (Allier). The sites' 244 employees primarily manufacture high-speed steel and recycle batteries and petroleum catalysts. The remaining activity at the site will be wire drawing. However, the activity's perinity is also questionable, according to employees. The job cuts are due to a decrease in demand.
The first job losses are expected to take place in April 2026. Negotiations on the job-saving plan will begin in mid-November. In total, 280 job cuts will take place at the Group level: Erasteel 2025 - EU
