European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
Flowserve Spain SL, a manufacturer of hydraulic pumps, has announced an Employment Redundancy Plan (ERE) affecting 136 employees at its Coslada plant (Madrid), representing nearly half of its 300-strong workforce. The move has sparked strong opposition from Trade Unions. The company justifies the dismissals on “organisational and productive grounds,” though unions allege a broader strategy of offshoring operations to countries such as Mexico, India, Saudi Arabia, and France.
The planned restructuring would effectively dismantle the production department, retaining only a limited capacity for maintenance and engineering, which workers fear signals the eventual closure of the site. The plant, historically one of Flowserve’s most efficient in Europe, is situated in the Corredor del Henares, a region already suffering from significant industrial decline. Trade unions have announced nine days of strike action starting on 20 October. They are calling for intervention from local and regional authorities to protect industrial employment and prevent, which they views as an unjustified and strategic withdrawal of operations from Spain.
