Description
Norske Skog, a Norwegian paper manufacturer, announced the reduction of up to 200 positions across operations and support functions in Norway, Austria and France. The Skogn factory in Norway has already reduced around 20 positions and is not expected to undergo further cuts in this round. The largest reductions are expected to occur in France and Austria.
The company states that the programme follows a thorough cost-base review and will run over 2025–2027, responding to overcapacity and low margins in publication paper, falling demand in parts of the portfolio, and elevated energy and raw-material costs.
Reductions concern roles in both operational and support areas. Job reductions will be achieved partly through natural attrition and a hiring freeze, with a smaller number potentially affected by direct dismissals.
The process has been initiated and will be phased in during 2025–2027. Management reports full agreement with employee representatives on a responsible downsizing process and indicates the measures are intended to preserve competitiveness while maintaining deliveries, while local management at Skogn signals no new site-specific dismissals in this round.
Norske Skog is among Europe’s larger producers of publication and packaging paper, operates mills in Halden and Skogn as well as facilities in France and Austria, employs about 1,700 people.
