European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
GE Vernova, which is part of the American General Electric group, is cutting 120 jobs in France as part of a Europe-wide restructuring of 600 jobs. The cuts will mostly affect support departments such as human resources and financial services. 42 of these cuts will take place at its site in Belfort. To move forward quickly, the management has opted to establish a collective contractual agreement rather than a job protection plan.

GE Vernova employs a total of 25,000 people in Europe, and 8,000 in France.

149 positions are being eliminated, affecting project managers, civil engineering, and support functions. GE Vernova has chosen to proceed through a collective contractual termination scheme. The company is navigating between gas turbines, which are sustaining activity and offshore wind, which is sinking under heavy debt. Yet, with 11% growth and solid profits, the company's economic health does not fully justify these decisions.
Regions such as Belfort are proposing alternative pathways, including hydrogen initiatives and digital services, as future avenues. This situation reflects a broader sector-wide crisis impacting major energy companies across Europe.
