European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
American multinational technology company Microsoft has announced that it will cut 9,000 jobs worldwide.
The cuts will affect staff Ireland, where Microsoft employs about 6,000 people. The company has submitted a collective redundancy notification to Ireland’s Department of Enterprise, though the exact number of affected employees remains unclear. If applied proportionally, as many as 240 jobs in Ireland could be at risk.
This round of layoffs follows two earlier ones in 2025: 6,000 job cuts in May, mainly in product and engineering roles, and about 1,000 in January, mainly in the United-States
Microsoft has also made significant cuts in recent years, including 10,000 jobs in 2023 Microsoft 2023-WO and 1,900 in its Activision Blizzard and Xbox divisions in 2024 Microsoft 2024-WO.

It is announced that Microsoft will cut about 200 jobs (including 148 managerial roles) in France: Microsoft 2025-FR and 138 in Romania: Microsoft 2025-RO .
The cuts are linked to the rapid and massive deployment of AI. In France, the company and labour unions signed a collective mutual termination agreement last July in an effort to redirect its business strategy and reorganise internal operations. These downsizing measures have heated anger among employees, while Microsoft's management justifies the move by pointing to an additional $80 billion in investments this year, driven by AI.
