European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
J.G. Weisser Söhne, a German mechanical engineering manufacturer based in St. Georgen (Baden-Württemberg), is laying off 108 employees from various departments as part of ongoing insolvency proceedings under self-administration. Due to increasing economic difficulties caused by the coronavirus pandemic and the insolvency of its parent company, the firm filed for insolvency in 2024. Discussions with potential investors are ongoing, while the option of continuing operations independently is also being explored.
A transfer company with a duration of up to six months will be established for the affected employees to facilitate a socially responsible transition and provide training opportunities.
J.G. Weisser Söhne was founded in 1856, specialises in high-precision machinery for various industries, and employed around 340 people at the time of the insolvency filing in September 2024.
