Description
The publishing house Nürnberger Presse (VNP), a German media company in the publishing industry, is cutting around 200 jobs by the end of 2027 as part of a digital realignment. All areas at the Nuremberg site are affected. 90 positions expected to be eliminated through retirement and natural attrition, 50 positions will be cut when the new printing facility opens at the end of 2026,15 editorial roles will be affected, and the remaining will be identified with the work council started mid-2026.
The aim is to secure the company's economic future through automation, IT modernisation and the expansion of its digital business with personalised offerings, video formats and live journalism.
The job cuts are to be carried out in a socially responsible manner through natural fluctuation and a possible social plan. The works council has announced negotiations. Trade union ver.di criticises the job cuts as a prime example of undesirable developments in the industry.
VNP is an 80-year-old family business with around 790 employees that publishes the Nürnberger Nachrichten and Nürnberger Zeitung newspapers and is the largest printing provider in northern Bavaria.
