Description
Telus, the Canadian company subcontracted by the American social-media company Meta to moderate content on Facebook and Instagram in Barcelona, has reached an agreement with workers’ representatives to present an Employment Redundancy File (ERE) of 2,059 employees. The ERE, which affects nearly the entire workforce in Barcelona premises, was ratified by 96% of staff in an online vote.
Each affected employee will receive compensation equivalent to 33 days’ salary per year worked, capped at 24 months, amounting to a total estimated cost of €22 million. The first dismissals will begin on 22 May and will continue progressively until September. The agreement also includes the creation of a job pool, granting dismissed employees priority access to future vacancies within the company for two years. This move follows Meta's decision to end its content moderation contract with Telus, after Mark Zuckerberg opted to relax moderation policies. Telus has since been seeking new clients, as Meta was reportedly its sole provider.
