Description
STMicroelectronics, a Franco-Italian manufacturer of semiconductors, is cutting around 1000 employees in France, primarily through voluntary departures, until the end of 2027. This restructuring is part of the Group's global plan to cut 2,800 jobs aimed at reducing costs following the automobile sector crisis and the American tariffs STMicroelectronic 2025 - World. Employees were informed of the national plan during a works council meeting. No details have yet been released regarding which sites are affected. However, the Group has stated that no site in France will be closed. The trade union CFDT is concerned that these voluntary departures will hinder opportunities for training and job conversions.
The Group has a workforce of 50,000 worldwide, including 11,500 in France. 7,500 employees are based at the two sites in Isère (Grenoble and Crolles). The remaining workforce is located in Tours, Rousset, Saint-Genis, Sophia-Antipolis, and Rennes.
