Description
The Japanese company JTEKT that is dedicated to automotive steering systems, has announced the cut of 112 jobs affecting Irigny site near Lyon amidst a tense economic climate and fierce international competition. JTEKT employees gathered to stand against the suppression of jobs at their Irigny site located in the south of Lyon. They denounce a "brutal deindustrialization" linked with a global offshoring movement to Marocco as well as Czechia and the closure of research projects. Trade unions such as the General Confederation of Labour (CGT) called for a massive mobilization to denounce a short-term strategy that endangers not only jobs but also the French industrial expertise.

JTEKT's layoff plans and methods triggered worker reactions at both of its plants, located in Irigny and Chevigny-Saint-Sauveur, throughout July 2025. Despite the weak involvement of trade unions, workers organised themselves by staging several strikes and by refusing HR talks, it ended without a victory with the suppression of a total of 197 jobs. At least, this mobilisation is said to have reinforced workers' solidarity.
