Aleo Solar, a German company in the solar industry, has confirmed the closure of its production site in Prenzlau, affecting around 110 jobs. Production will be phased out and a unit will be retained for a strategic reorganisation of the company, the details of which are not yet known. The exact date of closure has not yet been decided.
The decision to close the plant was taken due to the difficult market situation in the solar industry, in particular increasing price pressure and overcapacity in China, as well as a lack of political support, which the company cites as a key argument. Affected employees will be supported by a social plan and professional reorientation. State Secretary Michael Kellner regretted the decision and pointed out that he had already informed the management about support programmes, but that the company had not made use of them.
Aleo Solar was founded in 2001 and has been producing in Prenzlau since 2002. After being taken over by Asian investors in 2013, the company was one of the last German module manufacturers. Previous internal restructurings were recorded in the ERM database in 2014, with 657 job cuts Aleo solar 2014-DE.
