Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.

Automotive supplier Continental announced further job redundancies to improve efficiency and competitiveness. The company announced that 1,450 jobs will be lost in Germany out of a total of 3,000 jobs worldwide. Job cuts affect employees in research and development. Due to strong competition and the transformation in the automotive industry, the management is streamlining research and development activities worldwide.
The job cuts in Germany will affect employees at different sites, such as Frankfurt (220 jobs lost), Babenhausen (220 jobs lost), Nuremberg (140 jobs lost), Ingolstadt (20 jobs lost), Regensburg (40 jobs lost), Wetzlar (200 jobs lost), Schwalbach (10 jobs lost). 330 jobs will also be cut at Continental affiliate Elektrobit headquartered in Erlangen.
The company stated that it wants to realise redundancies by natural attrition and socially acceptable manners (such as supporting employees in their search for new jobs). Continental already announced to take up negotiations with employee representatives on the details of job redundancy measures. The company stated that it employed in its automotive section around 92,000 employees at the end of 2024 (worldwide), out of which 31,000 worked in research and development.
The newly announced job cuts are in addition to the job redundancy measures already announced in 2024 [Continental-2024-DE] (https://apps.eurofound.europa.eu/restructuring-events/detail/201054) and 2023 Continental-2024-DE.
