Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.

CBA Meubles, a French manufacturer of ready-to-assemble furniture, is closing its factory in Nersac (Charente), losing 85 jobs. Previously known as Demeyere, the company is shutting down the facility due to declining sales and a financial loss of 13.4 million euros in 2023. The furniture industry is closely linked to the struggling real estate sector, contributing to these difficulties.
The Moroccan group Safari acquired the company in 2022, retaining 478 of the original 716 employees. In 2024, it planned to invest 27 million euros in modernizing the company’s manufacturing processes.
CBA Meubles currently has a total workforce of 470 employees, with 385 based in the North and 85 in Charente.
