Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.

Novartis, a Swiss-based pharmaceutical multinational, has announced it will be dismissing 170 employees at its facility in Puurs. The company management stated that it intends to increase the competitiveness of the facility through restructuring measures. In addition to the reduction in staffing, there is also the intention to invest 40 million euros in the site to further expand its production capabilities for biologicals. Trade unions at the facility are very critical of the decision by the company management, as the company is considered to be profitable.
