Description

The cleantech company Northvolt has announced a new restructuring programme within its materials branch, which may result in the redundancy of 90 out of 430 employees within the business area. Negotiations with trade unions have been launched and notice has been given to the Swedish unemployment services (Arbetsförmedlingen). The Materials business area is spread out across multiple units and locations.

Northvolt’s recent financial struggles have led to restructuring under Chapter 11 in the U.S. and large scale lay-offs in 2024 Northvolt 2024 - SE.

The materials branch focuses on cathode manufacturing and recycling of materials. According to company representatives, these are not Northvolt’s focus areas at this moment. Further, the prices of recycled materials have declined on the global markets.

Northvolt is a Swedish design and manufacturing company specialising in lithium-ion battery technology for electric vehicles.
