Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.

NTN Transmissions Europe, a manufacturer of bearings and transmission seals, is set to cut 127 jobs over the next two years across its three sites. Of these reductions, 72 positions in direct manufacturing, 42 in manufacturing support, and 13 in central functions will be eliminated. The decline in car production between 2019 and 2023 in Europe has resulted in overproduction at the Allones and Crézancy sites, prompting the need for these cuts. In addition, the company plans to modernise production at its Allones facility.
The trade union CGT has criticised the company, alleging that it is relocating operations to Sibiu, Romania, and sourcing components from China.
In total, the three sites currently employ 1,000 workers.
