Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.

As announced on 24 January 2025, retail Group Rewe plans to close the Glockenbrot Bakery in Frankfurt within the next five years. The bakery, which has been part of the Rewe Group since 1986, employs 480 workers, and the company aims to find socially responsible solutions for those affected.
Rewe intends to exit the bread production business. Additionally, the Frankfurt facility has reached its capacity and space limits, and constructing a new plant with significant investments would not be worthwhile.
The second Glockenbrot production site in Bergkirchen, Bavaria, will be sold to the large bakery Harry-Brot by the end of 2025. Harry-Brot, headquartered in Schenefeld near Hamburg, has stated that it plans to retain all approximately 320 employees.
