Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
In 2024, the Académie de Reims, the local French education authority, cut 128 teaching positions due to a declining student population, reducing the need for teachers. The reductions occurred in two phases: 90 positions were cut first, followed by 38. Despite these cuts, Reims maintains one of the highest supervision rates of teachers per classroom in metropolitan France, second only to Paris.
In the region, the academic area of the large east (Grand Est) has a workforce of 92,262 as of 2025.
