Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.

As announced on 20 January 2025, the grocery retailer Kaufland plans to cut up to 350 of the 550 jobs at its logistics site in Donnersdorf, near Schweinfurt. This location supplies all 770 stores in Germany with non-food goods and promotional items. Kaufland wants logistics to be handled by contractors in the future, as they can respond more flexibly to changing personnel demands. The company aims to find socially responsible solutions for the affected employees.
Kaufland operates over 1,500 stores in 8 countries and employs 155,000 people, including 90,000 in Germany.
