Description
The energy company TAMEH Czech, which is the main energy supplier for Liberty Ostrava ironworks, has started massive layoffs in the first days of January 2025. 200 people, out of the 280 staff members are supposed to be dismissed.
The company's troubles date back to December 2023, when the court sent TAMEH Czech into bankruptcy as a result of non-payment for supplies by the metallurgical company Liberty Ostrava. Most employees at the TAMEH Czech plant have been at home since then, receiving 80 percent of their wages.
Before taking over the company in November 2024, the new owner Vítkovice Energy had repeatedly assured the insolvency administrator that he would preserve all jobs.
According to the trade unions, the ongoing job cuts are an unpleasant surprise for most employees, who originally expected the new owner to develop the company and preserve jobs. Due to the situation in the company, a strike alert has already been declared and a strike is also possible.
