Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The online grocery retailer MatHem announced that it would close two warehouses in Malmö and Gothenburg in September of 2024. The closures will affect 150 workers in each city. The decision follows a longer period of economic strain on the company. The company has a target to become profitable by 2026, and this includes streamlining their entire value chain. One step in this process is centralising their warehousing activities to the recently constructed warehouse in Larsboda, outside of Stockholm, which is much larger and more automated.
