Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The software development company Fujitsu Finland concluded change negotiations, which will result in the termination of 158 jobs. In addition, the company announced temporary layoffs of 20 persons. In the change negotiation process, staff reductions were brought down from the original estimate of 190 direct dismissals. The parties to the negotiations have also identified twelve positions that could potentially be filled by staff at the risk of redundancy.
The change negotiations followed a 10% drop in turnover in 2023 and the need for restructuring was announced in June 2024. Fujitsu Finland previously implemented temporary layoffs of 1,222 staff between November 2022 and March 2023.
Fujitsu Finland, a subsidiary to the multinational Fujitsu Services Holdings, had 1,517 staff at the end of 2023.
