Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The region of Östergötland announced in February of 2024 that there would have to be substantial reductions in the public sector workforce due to a strained economy. According to the notice, 900 jobs were at risk. After negotiations with the union, the final number of workers to be dismissed is 235.
The reductions will primarily affect workers in the healthcare sector, who are not doctors or nurses. The workers who are affected are for example administrative personnel, assistant nurses, social-therapeutic staff, and medical-technical personnel.
