Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Apoteket in Örebro announced that they would dismiss 100 of their 180 employees in October of 2024 after the company lost a tender to provide prepackaged doses of pharmaceuticals to their competitor Apotekstjänst Sverige for the two regions Västra Götaland and Halland. The workforce reduction will only affect the dosing unit in Örebro, meaning the pharmaceutical unit that packages pharmaceutical products in dosage adjusted packaging which it delivers to pharmacies.
In 2012, Apoteket closed five out of its seven total dosage units. In 2015, one of the two remaining units in Umeå was also closed, and all production was centralised to Örebro, where production was expanded with a new dosing unit.
