Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The solar panel installation and service company Sesol announced in August of 2024 that they are reducing their workforce by up to 184 workers. After negotiations with the applicable trade unions, the number of dismissals was reduced to 134 workers, leaving on October 3rd, 2024.
The decision to reduce the workforce was due to unexpectedly low demand for the installation of new solar panels, caused by high interest rates driving down demand.
Sesol are closing down two units in Borlänge and Skövde entirely, while transforming two other units, in Norrköping and Trollhättan, into sales offices instead of service offices.
