Description

Airbus Defence and Space, a subsidiary of the French group that manufactures military airplanes and satellites, is rendering 540 workers redundant in France until mid-2026. Of these, 424 positions will be cut at the Toulouse site, specializing in satellite assembly and testing (Haute-Garonne), and the remaining 116 jobs in Élancourt (Yvelines), which develops military technology.

This internal restructuring is part of a wider worldwide reduction affecting 2,043 workers due to increased competitiveness and market changes: Airbus 2024 - WO. New producers such as Starlink (SpaceX) and Kuiper produce their own satellites, providing an integrated service, which traditional manufacturers lag behind. Additionally, internal pressures, such as difficulties with its Onesat program and late deliveries due to its subcontractors, have further impacted the company. The rest of the cuts are occurring in the United Kingdom, Spain: Airbus 2024 - ES, other regions, and most significantly in Germany, where the headquarters of the Space subsidiary are located.

In France, Airbus Defence and Space has a total workforce of 7,000 across its Yvelines and Toulouse sites.

Several large restructurings have been recorded in the ERM database, with the latest hiring 400 workers in 2023 Airbus 2023 - FR.
