Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Tupperware, an international manufacturer and distributor of plastic storage containers has announced it will close its facility in Belgium (alongside other facilities across Europe). In total, all 270 employees in Aalst face dismissal.
Earlier this year, the international parent company was taken over by creditors Stonehill Capital Management Partners and Alden Global Capital, whereby the new management decided to revise its production chain. However much is still unclear about the situation as the international management of the facility based in the US has not made any formal statements. This leads to great uncertainty and issues for employees as no formal bankruptcy procedures can be initiated.
