Description
The largest rail freight carrier, ČD Cargo, will lay off 420 employees in the coming months. The layoffs will affect multiple professions in operation, from train drivers to shunter workers.
According to the company, the reason is the decline in the market, especially in the transportation of coal and wood.
The company's management has already informed the trade unions. The laid-off employees could find employment, for example, at the parent company Czech Railways, as passenger carriers have long reported a shortage of personnel, especially train drivers. Discussions about possible job opportunities with regional employment offices are also underway.
ČD Cargo is a subsidiary of the state-owned rail operator České dráhy (ČD) and currently employs about 6,550 people across the Czech Republic.
