Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The appliance manufacturer BSH Electrodomésticos (manufacturer of Balay, Bosch, Siemens, Gaggenau and Neff), will close its factory in Esquíroz (Navarra), where it employs 655 workers in two plants. Its intention is to cease activity in the next six months. The Esquiroz factory, dedicated to refrigerators and compact dishwashers, is one of the five production centres that BSH has in Spain.
Company sources indicate that, given the difficult market situation, and after a period of reflection and exhaustive analysis, the legal representation of the workers has been informed this Monday of the intention to initiate the closure process. The reasons given by the company refer to the lack of competitiveness of the Esquíroz plant, despite the numerous improvement measures carried out.
With 4,400 employees in Spain, BSH Electrodomésticos manufactures around 4 million parts a year in Spain, half of which are exported.
