Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Amis, an automotive subcontractor specializing in sprocket manufacturing for gearboxes, is set to cut 188 jobs as part of a newly announced job-saving plan. The closures will affect 40 positions at the Guéret site (Creuse), which will be shut down, and 148 positions at the company’s headquarters in Montluçon (Allier).
The company, currently in receivership, has faced prolonged financial difficulties. Previous efforts to stabilize operations, including the use of partial unemployment schemes introduced during the Covid-19 pandemic, provided temporary relief but failed to ensure it's long-term viability.
The news of the Guéret site closure came as a shock to workers, who attribute the company’s struggles to low-cost competition from India and China.
