Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
As announced on 9 December 2024, the printing press manufacturer Heidelberger Druckmaschinen will cut 450 of approximately 4,000 positions at its headquarters in Wiesloch-Walldorf, Baden-Württemberg, in a socially responsible manner.
The company has reached an agreement with the union IG Metall in negotiations on a "future plan to strengthen the competitiveness of the site." For the remaining 3,550 employees, the company is providing a job guarantee until the end of 2028.
These measures could save around 100 million euros in personnel costs.
