Description
Kauniala hospital in Kauniainen, Finland has concluded cooperation negotiations and is dismissing 149 of its staff. Only one ward offering around-the-clock accommodation will remain open, with beds for 24 patients. The hospital and rehabilitation services will be dismantled. The majority of the hospital’s employees are practical nurses.
Kauniala hospital's number of patients have been declining to only a third of full capacity in the past year. Company representative states that the public welfare regions have improved their ability to offer services themselves rather than use private providers.
Kauniala hospital is a subsidiary to the multinational private health care provider Attendo, which is headquartered in Sweden. Attendo has simultaneously undergone large personnel cuts in its senior homes, resulting in the dismissal of 150 persons Attendo-2024-FI(FI-Attendo-2024).
Attendo bought Kauniala hospital from the city of Vantaa two years ago, then stating the ownership change from municipal to private will not affect the staff or the care provided. During municipal ownership, Kauniala had 300 staff. When the current cooperation negotiations commenced, Kauniala hospital had 170 staff.
