Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The Portuguese charitable organisation Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa (SCML) and lottery operator, will implement an internal restructuring process. This process will affect 207 workers. The restructuring plan is based on early retirement and pre-retirement, since 235 workers are aged 65 or over and 1,603 are aged between 60 and 64.
According to the restructuring plan, the ambition is to achieve a positive net result of around €38.4 million in 2025, after SCML reached the end of 2023 with profits of just €2.4 million and 2% less revenue from social games, to €191.10 million.
