Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
UPM Ratflac announced to close its site in Kaltenkirchen. 154 jobs are affected by the closure. UPM Ratflac manufactures self-adhesive paper and labels.
The company stated that the closure was necessary as the company is improving the profitability of its business and centralises business at certain production sites. Moreover, UPM Ratflac wants to improve efficiency and competitiveness. Therefore, it decided to concentrate its graphic segment in Belgium and its label production in Poland and Finland.
The closure of its German site in Kaltenkirchen will be realised in stages (throughout 2025). UPM Ratflac is a subsidiary of Finnish forestry company UPM.
