Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The French subsidiary of Flink has ceased operations, leaving 218 employees redundant, including 128 permanent staff, with the remainder being temporary workers and contractors.
The company had faced financial difficulties, entering receivership in June 2023 before ultimately failing to secure sustainable investments. Factors such as inflation, intense competition, and stringent regulations in France contributed to its closure. In March 2023, the French government classified dark stores as warehouses rather than commercial outlets, imposing stricter operational rules on the sector. By contrast, regulations in Germany are less restrictive.
Several prior large restructurings have been recorded in the ERM database, with the latest cutting 210 jobs in 2023 Flink 2023 - FR .
