Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Bosch, a German multinational manufacturing automotive and construction equipment, is closing its site in Haute-Savoie, eliminating 153 jobs. The company's board of directors justified its decision by saying that the electrification of the automobile industry had led to a decline in demand for the goods produced at the site. The demand for hydraulic systems has fallen, while demand for electrical systems has not risen to offset the effect. However, employees believe that the company is closing its French sites to invest in Germany and Eastern Europe. This is not the first site to close this year, with restructuring plans in Mondeville, Saint-Ouen and Rodez.
Several previous major restructurings have been recorded in the ERM database, with the latest Mondeville closure resulting in the loss of 413 jobs in 2024 Robert Bosch Electronique
