Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
As announced on 14 November 2024, the German solar technology manufacturer SMA Solar plans to cut 1,100 jobs worldwide by the end of 2025. Of these, 700 positions will be affected at the company's headquarters in Niestetal, Germany.
The cost-cutting program is in response to challenges in the business with residential and commercial solar systems. Revenue significantly declined in the first nine months of 2024. The program is expected to save between €150 and €200 million.
The company employs 4,500 people in 20 countries worldwide, including 3,200 in Germany.
