Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Batimétal, a French manufacturer specializing in metal furnishings for homes, has entered liquidation, leading to the loss of 123 jobs at its facility in Douvres-la-Délivrande. The company had been under receivership since September 2024, and the liquidation process will take effect in 21 days.
The workforce, with an average age of 47, are concerned about the financial strain on their family and the impact on their retirement plans. To mitigate the impact, workers with at least one year of service are eligible for a securitization contract. This arrangement guarantees one year of wages while they seek new employment or offers a bonus if they secure a job within this period.
